Case Study | Standard Operating Environment For Hot Desk Office

Standard Operating Environment for Hot Desk Office
PROJECT:

Standard Operating Environment (SOE) Solution for Hot Desk Office

CLIENT:

Diary Product company operating for over 40 years who are the largest supplier of dairy ingredients to the Australian Industrial Market. Located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Like most businesses today, our client was keen to transition their team back to their Northern Beaches office. As such, they wanted to change their current office layout to accommodate a more flexible remote working environment.  Their vision was to implement a hot desk work environment. Hot desking is an office organisation system that involves multiple workers using a single physical workstation or docking station during different time periods.

As we already provide Managed IT Services to our client, they engaged our Project Team to develop a remote solution that would successfully help deliver their desired requirements.

Standard Operating Environment (SOE) Solution

After careful consideration, the project team at Techstream Solutions recommended a Standard Operating Environment (SOE). SOEs can help simplify and streamline everything from provisioning and deployment to patching and other operational tasks. It is ideal for workplaces who need to accommodate elastic work forces as it allows end users to move seamlessly across systems. As such, we knew by implementing this solution, an SOE would successfully complement a hot desk environment.

Organisations that use SOEs can benefit from a reduction in costs and time associated with the deployment, configuration, maintenance, and support of workstations.  Overall, a SOE focuses on creating a disk image that can be widely distributed to every workstation.  As a result, it provides employees with the necessary tools to perform their tasks. In other words, a standard list of operative systems and software tools will be installed, rendering it easier for IT teams to maintain the work environment and reduce unknown variables.

IT Support Outcomes:

The remote solution was successfully implemented in April 2021.  It has provided our client with the flexibility required in this current work climate. Furthermore, the hot desk system has also been implemented. As a result, our client is transitioning their team back to the office.

For businesses who are considering a hot desk environment, there are many benefits for companies and employees.  These include:

  • Increased collaboration – encourages people to move around the office and talk to team members they normally wouldn’t interact with.
  • A tidier office – employees can no longer leave personal items on desks.
  • Lower costs – by utilising office space more effectively.
  • Employees autonomy – allows them the flexibility to change their day-to-day environment.
  • Improved performance – encourages team members to share their knowledge with their co-workers.
